History
Nation Sustainable
was founded in 2008 due to a passion for
promoting sustainable living and addressing social problems,
particularly
poverty.
We became increasing aware of how the "green" industry was targeting individuals and families of substantial income to the neglect of those without this income. While it is great that we can see the upper and middle
classes increasingly
embracing green living, it is a strong belief that sustainable living
is
beneficial for all people and can lead to important improvements in the
cost of
living and quality of life for lower income individuals and families.
It is the
goal of Nation Sustainable to better be able to serve these individuals
and
families.
Vision
The vision for
Nation Sustainable is an organization that
provides education and economical green home improvements. The organization
accomplishes this in several
ways. One is by
providing free and very
low-cost energy audits to low-income families and individuals. The audit will demonstrate
areas and actions
in the home that contribute to high utility bills and decreased comfort
and
health, as well as educate residents on ways to improve these
conditions. The
organization will also provide free and
highly discounted products and services to help implement these
improvements.
Another way that
the organization fulfills its purpose is by
purchasing urban properties and retrofitting them to be energy and
water
efficient, healthy and comfortable homes that can provide free or
highly
subsidized shelter to families and individuals that are in very
difficult
situations in order to help them get back on their feet.
Nation Sustainable
also seeks to support other charitable
organizations involved in social and/or environmental advocacy and
growth, and
provision of other products and/or services that facilitate this
purpose. |
